The rules of craps
The objective of craps is to anticipate the score the player will achieve by rolling the two dice. How a Craps game is played
Craps consists of two steps, the initial roll of the dice called the “come out roll” and then the point.
Players make their first bets.
The player rolls the dice once for the come out roll, there are 3 possible outcomes:
If the result is 7 or 11, Pass Line bets win and Don’t Pass Bar loses. A new game begins.
If the result is 2, 3 or 12, the Pass Line bets lose and Don’t Pass Bar wins, a new game begins.
If the result is any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), the point is established and the game continues with new throws.
If the point is established, the player rolls the dice again, there are 2 possible scenarios.
If the player manages to re-roll before the 7 falls, the Pass Line bets win and Don’t Pass Bar loses.
If the player rolls 7 before the point is made, Don’t Pass bets win and Pass Line bets lose.
Let’s take an example: If the player bets Pass and rolls a 7 on the first roll, he wins and the game is over. But if he rolls a 2, he immediately loses his bet. On the other hand, if he rolls a 5, the point is set at 5 and the player must roll the dice again until he rolls another 5 to win. But be careful, if he rolls a 7 before making a 5 he loses his Pass bet.
This game of craps highlights the main Pass and Don’t Pass bets, but there are many other types of bets that are more or less advantageous. It is also quite possible to make bets after the first roll.
The main types of craps bets
Pass Line: The house advantage is only 1.41%, this is the main bet that is placed before the first roll. It has a odds of 1:1. This bet is won if the player rolls 7 or 11 on the first roll and loses if numbers 2, 3 or 12 come up. In other cases, (if the player rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10), a point is established. The bet will be won if the point comes out before the 7, if the 7 comes out, the player loses.
Don’t Pass Bar: On the first roll, the bet wins with an odds of 1:1 if the dice roll 2 or 3 or ties at 12 but loses if the dice roll 7 or 11. Then, if a point is established, the bet wins if the 7 is rolled before the point value and loses if the point is rolled before the 7.
Among other things, this bet allows you to pocket winnings if the shooter loses. This is a bet that is not always played at the craps table, yet it is with this one that the house advantage is the lowest (1.36%). This is because you win when all other players betting on Pass lose. You are therefore often against the majority of players.
Come: This bet is played once the point is established, it follows the same rule as the Pass Line and has a house advantage of 1.41%.
Don’t Come: This bet is placed once the point is established, it follows the same rule as the Don’t Pass Bar and has a house advantage of 1.36%.
Odds / Lay Bet: This is an additional bet after the point is established. It pays if the point is drawn before the 7 for the Odds bet and if the 7 is drawn before the point for the Lay bet.
This bet reduces the Casino Advantage and in some cases makes it zero. That’s why there is often a limit of 3, 4 or 5 times the Pass Line bet amount for this type of bet. It is only available if the point has been established, for example, the player bets on Pass Line, the point is made, he can bet on Odds below the Pass Line.
This is allowed because not all players know this bet and it is only accessible if the point has been established. So you have to bet a first time on a simple chance to take advantage of it.
